Dear Friends,
As you read this, allow your exhale to flow or spiral down your body
through your chair into the earth and feel the up-lifting quality of
the sky above you. Sense the presence of the field supporting you and
the aliveness in your body. Notice gravity in your jaw and shoulders.
Sense the space that exists in you body and around you in this moment.
Oh yes, centering -- it takes about 10 seconds.
Once again, the Holiday season is upon us. The energy that is
stimulated by more traffic and less parking as well as advertising
from the retail world can be channeled toward the intention of
radiating compassion.
The practice of tonglen suggests that we breathe in a difficult
emotion and breathe out a positive intention. For instance, when I
notice I am feeling frustrated or tense, I can inhale the frustration
so I accept it completely for a few seconds and then exhale, breathing
compassion to myself and out into the world. Remember, in Conscious
Embodiment, we practice making the exhale longer than the inhale.
This is like the "yes... and" exercise. It allows you to respect your
experience and then cultivate the sensation of compassion, or whatever
quality you are working with, as it permeates through your body and
radiates out into the world.
Our greatest challenge is in finding ways to remember to center.
Discover ritual practice moments. Take small time-outs to shift your
perspective. I suggest 10 seconds of centering 10 times a day --
altogether the time is about a minute and a half. Like a homeopathic
remedy, a little goes a long way. Let's remember to take the remedy.
** The theme for courses and workshops in 2008 is Visibility. **
Our ability to influence situations and direct our intention is a
function of presence and focus. Presence is the embodied feeling of
aliveness that radiates out into the world and proclaims validity of
existence.
The capacity to maintain the extension of one's field of presence is
affected by self-consciousness or concern about visibility.
The World English Dictionary defines visibility as: 'the fact of being
able to be seen' and 'the degree to which somebody or something is
easily noticed by and catches the attention of the public or a
particular group of people.'
Most of us have some degree of conflict about being seen. We have a
pattern that says 'see this part of me but not that part of me'. It
takes a fair amount of contraction and energy to keep parts of us
hidden while attempting to expose only certain parts to the outside
world. Then there is the energy we use to maintain self-consciousness,
which is constantly checking to see if things are going according to
plan.
So how much energy is left to radiate out what we do want to project?
It could be that less than half of our life force is available for
this task. And so because of our issues with visibility, a diminished
amount of energy is available to proclaim our validity and our
contribution to the world and thus we have a limited capacity for
connection and effect on the environment around us.
In 2008 the CE level 2 courses and workshops will explore such areas
as:
What are the energetic patterns we have in place that keep us from
being visible?
How can we practice being visible to ourselves?
What are the energetic patterns that cultivate visibility?
What does it mean 'to be seen'?
How can we use successes and failures as a way to cultivate visibility
with dignity and spiritual confidence?
Below are some of the workshops and classes for 2008.
